Betty McCollum press release, VERBATIM: “Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) and Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (R-PA) introduced a bipartisan resolution on Friday to designate August 17th as National Nonprofit Day, recognizing the 1.3 million nonprofit organizations and 12 million nonprofit employees in the U.S. who serve local, national, and international needs.”

“TERRORISM: via a Rep. Betty McCollum press release, VERBATIM: ‘Five weeks after Minnesota was shaken by the targeted political violence against DFL elected officials, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced the cancellation of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention (TVTP) grant. The TVTP grant is specifically intended to detect and prevent violent acts such as those perpetrated against Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband. … Congresswoman Betty McCollum led a letter to Secretary Noem requesting the immediate reinstatement of the TVTP grant. The letter was co-signed by all six of Minnesota’s Congressional Democrats.’”

“DC: via Forum News Service, VERBATIM: ‘President Donald Trump announced Monday, Aug. 11, that he plans to deploy the National Guard in Washington, D.C., and take federal control over the Metropolitan police department. Trump said the move to invoke the D.C. Home Rule Act is in response to crime and homelessness. … Rep. Betty McCollum, D-4th, said in a statement Monday that the federal takeover is a ‘dangerous escalation towards authoritarianism.’ … Rep. Pete Stauber, R-8th, said on X that he is grateful for Trump’s ‘strong leadership and commitment to public safety.’ … Democratic Sen. Tina Smith echoed McCollum, calling the deployment a ‘distraction’ from the ‘economic calamity of his trade war’ and the potential release of the Epstein files. … Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-6th, said on X Monday that Washington, D.C. sees 25 million American visitors per year, including Minnesotans, [and] ‘our nation’s capital must be made safe again.’”
